Every November, the sky swells, birds swoop and the fat rain arrives. Outside David Ryrie’s dining room window, thick silver ropes of water strike rose petals, plough loose earth and sound a shimmering percussion that empties your head of words. ‘Interception’ records the annual event. After taking in the photograph, one can almost hear the ground exhale with the smell of wet earth…
David Ryrie presented his first major solo exhibition, ‘Otherwise Arbitrary Moments’, at the Goulburn Regional Art Gallery from 5 feb. – 3 apr. 2021.
This publication, featuring a new essay by Emma O’Neill, is a fifty two page accompaniment to the exhibition with a complete list of works and stunning images of the eighteen works exhibited. It sits as an object in its own right, that speaks to Ryrie’s process as an artist.
